Today we bring you a new installment of the collection of articles related to the Tourdera connection itineraries. As we already explained to you, the Tordera Route and Arb\u00facies stream (Tourdera) is an itinerary that follows the course of the Tordera River and the Arb\u00facies stream in practically its entirety, but there are also some links to the route from towns near the river, as is the case of Massanes, Gualba, Riells i Viabrea, Breda or Vallgorguina. Well, today we present the case of Massanes.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

As in all connection itineraries, you can make the journey in both directions. In the case of Massanes, you can leave the main itinerary of the route at the foot of Hostalric and go to Massanes, or vice versa, from Massanes you can go to Hostalric. However, in this case, think that you can lengthen it to the Ma\u00e7anet – Massanes train station, so you can approach by train to do the route, or you can finish the route and take public transport to return home.<\/p>\n

If you have decided to do the section between Hostalric and Massanes, you will travel approximately 4 kilometers with an accumulated climbing gradient of 101 meters. It is an easy section, which mostly takes place on paved roads, which is very well signposted on the surface (pedestrian crossings, bike lanes, red speed reduction zones for vehicles, etc.). Therefore, it is highly recommended to do it by bicycle.<\/p>\n

From the main itinerary of the route, you will cross the Tordera River (access bridge to the highway) via a bike lane, which will take you to a pedestrian crossing in front of the Hostalric local police. Here you will already find the indications to go towards Massanes. Remember that throughout the itinerary, apart from vertical signage (tracking banners), you will also find yellow paint marks. The tracking code of these marks are typical of any itinerary signposted with paint: a small line indicates that you are on the right path, a cross that you are on the wrong path and a 90\u00ba angle mark indicates a sudden change of direction or turn. You will also see that in areas where you coincide with vehicles, parts of the road have been signposted in red and the route logos have been added to facilitate tracking.<\/p>\n

Once you have crossed the pedestrian crossing, you will pass through a passage under the Hostalric bypass, until you arrive at Joaquim Ruyra street, in a shared route section and where you must pay attention to traffic. This street will take you to the Can Ti\u00e0 Camps urbanization and, later, through the Massanes industrial estate, where you will circulate along a bike lane segregated from traffic. Following the indications, you will arrive at the Massanes road (GI-5121), which you must take for 850 meters to the town of Massanes, paying close attention to traffic, where the section ends. This last section to the town is where you must pay the most attention.<\/p>\n

Likewise, once arrived in Massanes, you can visit the small urban center, with the church of Sant Esteve de Massanes or the hermitage of Sant Roc, or you can continue to the train station in a very quiet and recommended section. Specifically, the section starts at the municipal warehouse, located on Carrer Major, just at the entrance to the town by the GIV-5121 road, where you will see the route panel.<\/p>\n

To start the section towards the station, you must follow the indications towards the train station that you will see on some small urban banners, or by following the yellow tracking marks (throughout the section you will also find the route tracking banners and yellow paint marks). Following the route, you will first take the Cambrerol neighborhood road to the Mas Coll turnoff, where you will find a tracking banner. From this point, take a forest track, which will take you through the local forests to the Water Purification Station, just at the Massanes stream, where you will take another track, also signposted with a tracking banner. From this point, you will continue along another track between forests, on a pleasant walk, passing in front of Can Ramilans, until you reach the GI-555 road. At this point, just as the existing signage indicates, you can cross the road at the same level paying close attention to traffic, or you can take a small variant along the Massanes stream, taking advantage of the bridge of the GI-555 road over this stream. You only have to keep in mind that in case of floods, you cannot take this small variant, as indicated in the signage.<\/p>\n

Once the road crossing is overcome, you only have about 950 meters left to the Train Station, first passing the Santa Coloma stream, then by the church of Sant Josep Obrer and, finally, crossing the train tracks via an overhead bridge, all along a recently paved path that is shared with vehicles.<\/p>\n
