The 6th International Bicycle Congress took place in Reus on May 18th and 19th, serving as the main forum for debate in Catalonia to address developments and exchange experiences related to bicycles among administrations, professionals, entities, and users. The Tordera route could not miss such an event, and we had the opportunity to present the project there.
During the congress, there was a discussion on the promotion, design, and safety of bicycle use in urban and interurban areas, concerning both daily travel and the practice of sports or the carrying out of tourism and leisure activities. Other aspects discussed included the impacts that bicycle use has on the economy, health, and the environment.
As an opening keynote, we were able to enjoy the explanations of Mikael Colville-Andersen, an expert in urban design and advisor to numerous cities and towns around the world regarding cycling urbanism and the re-establishment of the bicycle as a means of transport in cities, who shared his point of view on the use of the bicycle.
Likewise, in addition to the opening presentations, the congress featured a wealth of experiences, many of them in the field of cycle tourism, during which we had the opportunity to present the Tordera and Arbúcies Stream Route project, the various participating municipalities, review its current status, and, above all, announce the events that will take place during 2017 and 2018, which will allow all interested users to enjoy this route.
