Inauguration of the Girona sections of La Tourdera

Last Thursday, November 21st, the inauguration of the Girona sections of the “Tordera and Arbúcies stream Route” took place at the Molí de les Pipes in Arbúcies. The event was attended by mayors and technicians involved in the project, as well as representatives from the Provincial Council and the Montseny Natural Park. To finish, the attendees were able to exchange opinions while enjoying refreshments in the surroundings of the mill.

After many months of work and projects, the final sections of the Tourdera were finally inaugurated on November 21st, all of them belonging to municipalities in Girona. This is the culmination of a long project, as well as the beginning of a new stage that should make the Tourdera a reference route.

The event began with speeches by the Mayor of Arbúcies and Vice-President of the La Selva County Council, Mr. Pere Garriga, who emphasized that it is a project that brings together up to 18 municipalities, belonging to 2 different provinces and 3 different regions. Specifically, he recalled that the La Selva County Council is the entity that coordinates the project, through a collaboration agreement with all 18 participating municipalities, and that approximately one year ago, the sections of the first 11 municipalities belonging to the Barcelona province were inaugurated.

Next, Mr. Jordi Masquef, Deputy for Sports of the Girona Provincial Council and Vice-President of the Costa Brava Pirineus Consortium, intervened and highlighted the effort of the Girona Provincial Council in co-financing these types of territory development projects to help municipalities undertake initiatives like the one presented yesterday.

Once the speeches were finished, a short tour was made along one of the sections of the “Tordera and Arbúcies stream Route”, specifically a new section of path built next to the Molí de les Pipes, which allows bicycles and hikers to pass without the need to cross the private property of the mill. The tour also allowed for observing the signage elements of the route, such as tracking banners or milestones, all of them following the signage regulations of the Montseny Natural Park, which was also present at the event with its director, Mr. Lluís Martínez.

On the return trip, there was an opportunity to pass by the back of the mill, where the Arbúcies stream, the perfectly preserved ancient Romanesque bridge, and a fish pass enabled next to the mill’s dam can be seen. The event ended with refreshments for the attendees outside the Molí de les Pipes restaurant. We hope that from now on a new stage of the project will begin with the goal of making it widely known and consolidating it.
