Performances of the ACA in Tordera

Last January, the Generalitat de Catalunya reported on the various actions carried out by the Agència Catalana de l’Aigua (ACA) on the banks of the Tordera in the municipalities of Sant Celoni and Gualba, along the route of the Tordera Route through these municipalities.

As can be seen from the press release, the tasks were carried out as part of the maintenance and conservation actions of riverbeds in non-urban areas, and included various improvements to the hydraulic and environmental functioning of the Tordera river in La Batllòria and Gorg Negre, as well as the wetland area of Les Llobateres.

Specifically, in the La Batllòria sector, vegetation was cleared and trees that reduced drainage capacity were selectively removed, while reeds and other non-native riparian species were also eliminated and native species were planted.

Regarding Gorg Negre and the wetland area of Les Llobateres, vegetation was cleared and the felling and selective removal of trees was carried out, as well as the reshaping of the artificial embankment in the wetland area to favor interaction with the riverbed, and artificial elements of a ford were also removed. Finally, the resulting slopes were consolidated and the sediments were redistributed, generally renaturalizing the river spaces by planting native riparian species.

Below you can see some images of the before and after of the removal of the cement ford that occupied the riverbed:
