Today we propose a visit to Mosqueroles, to the administrative headquarters of the Montseny Natural Park, Masia Mariona. If you are thinking of doing any section of the Tourdera from Fogars de Montclús (Mosqueroles) or finishing in this beautiful town, you should know that at Masia Mariona you will find an exhibition about the scientific and patronage work of Rafael Patxot i Jubert, which deals with the Catalan farmhouse, the relationship with hiking, meteorology, astronomy, and popular songbooks.
Rafael Patxot was a very relevant figure on the international scientific scene. First of all, he was an astronomer, and above all a meteorologist, and he contributed decisively to the development of climate science in Catalonia. But Patxot’s most outstanding performance, and for which he is remembered, was his patronage in favor of Catalan culture.
In the municipality of Mosqueroles is the administrative headquarters of the Montseny Natural Park, located in Masia Mariona, which had been the property of the Patxot family, who used it as a summer house, and who donated it to the Barcelona Provincial Council to locate the headquarters of the Natural Park.
In honor of Rafael Patxot, on the ground floor of Masia Mariona there is a whole museographic project (6 rooms), called “L’Univers Patxot”, where a guided tour through Rafael Patxot’s most outstanding works is proposed: the study of the Catalan farmhouse, the relationship with hiking, meteorology, astronomy, and the popular songbook. In each of the six areas of the exhibition, and thanks to an attractive and rich design that combines technology with archival material, the visitor can appreciate the scope and variety of Patxot’s contributions through an experience that is both sensory and conceptual, visual, and literary. The virtual tour allows you to enrich the reading of the panels with various links to explanatory videos and complementary documentation of a popularizing nature, as well as sound effects, for example, when visiting the cloud room.
We think this exhibition is a perfect complement if you are thinking of doing any section of the Tourdera, whether between Mosqueroles and the Costa del Montseny, for example, or between Mosqueroles and Sant Esteve de Palautordera. The hours of Masia Mariona, which also functions as an Information Point, are every day from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., except December 25 and 26 and January 1 and 6.
