Remodeling works of the Tordera River Promenade

After many months, and a long period of bureaucratic procedures, the works on the Tordera river promenade, through which the Tourdera route passes at the height of the town of Tordera, have been underway for a few weeks. This major work, also caused by the serious damage inflicted by Storm Gloria, has an execution period that will last throughout much of the summer, but it will leave the passage of the route at this point in optimal conditions.

The damage caused by Storm Gloria as it passed through the town of Tordera required an emergency intervention on all the river embankments that face the urban center and required the construction of a long breakwater. However, the town council has been working throughout this time to restore and improve the entire urbanization of the area. This process has been slow because it required the support of various administrations to be able to finance the project and, until now, the passage of the route at this point presents a small deviation from the route of about 400m, still active, consisting of temporarily separating from the river, passing through the Parc de l’alcalde Sagrera, as specified in the following map or in the interactive map on the web.

The most damaged area corresponds to about 300m of the section and coincides with the area of the urban center and the bike path that connects the municipality of Tordera with Fogars de la Selva. In this area, the riverbed was reduced by about 15-20m and a part of the concrete path connecting the promenade also suffered landslides. This affected numerous urban elements such as streetlights, sections of railing, electrical panels for municipal services, and electrical, irrigation, and drinking water lines. The damage also affected the perimeter trees of the promenade and the garden area. The paved part of the promenade intended for parking was also affected.

The Tordera City Council has drafted a project for the urbanization, restoration, and improvement of the Tordera river promenade for this area, which aims for the area to become a new public recreational space for approaching and opening the municipality to the Tordera. It is a natural reference space, close to the urban center and which also currently has various sports and civic-social facilities such as the l’Amistat track, the Senior Citizens’ Club, and the Alcalde Sagrera gardens, a fact that favors the restructuring of this type of improvement of this location.

Besides maintaining the linearity of the promenade parallel to the river, the project proposes incorporating spaces that allow a wider use of recreational, sports, civic, and social activities, which will greatly benefit the Tordera route. The intention is, on the one hand, to urbanize Puigvert Street, so that a public entrance space to the area is generated, close to the urban center and that helps to structure the pedestrian itinerary, bike path, and allows for a parking area. The renovation project of the river promenade also incorporates vegetation and shade elements in this section. The remodeling works are expected to last throughout much of the summer.
