Pedal safely: share the road responsibly!

Cycling along the Tourdera is a great way to enjoy and discover the area in a healthy, fun and sustainable way. However, it is essential to do so safely, both to protect ourselves and the other users of the route. Respecting traffic regulations, using the right equipment and maintaining a responsible attitude are key aspects for preventing accidents. In addition, in spaces shared with pedestrians and vehicles, it is important to adapt your speed and be aware of your surroundings. Cycling with caution not only guarantees a more pleasant experience, but also contributes to safer coexistence for everyone.

Below are some tips to follow for cycling safely:

Make yourself visible:

  • During the early morning, in the evening, at night, in tunnels and in underpasses, it is mandatory to switch on the front and rear lights of the bicycle and to have a rear reflector.
  • In addition, on the road, it is highly recommended to wear visible, reflective clothing that can be seen from at least 150 metres away.

No surprises or misunderstandings:

  • Look around and signal before making any manoeuvre
  • Try to keep a steady path at all times so as not to surprise other users
  • Pay attention at intersections and respect right of way
  • Always cycle in the correct direction

Be careful! It is forbidden to:

  • Cycle under the influence of alcohol or drugs: the maximum permitted alcohol level is 0.25 mg/l; for minors it is 0
  • Use headphones, mobile phones or any other device while cycling

Essential equipment:

  • For your safety, you should always wear a helmet. In urban areas, it is mandatory for children under 16.
  • Bicycles must have a bell and a braking system
  • If you are of legal age, you may carry a child up to 7 years old in an approved additional child seat.

In urban areas, as a general rule, cycling on the pavement is prohibited. In addition, pedestrians must be respected, a safe distance must always be maintained and speed must be reduced. Maximum speed signs also apply to bicycles. Finally, avoid weaving and pay attention to vehicle doors that may open suddenly.

On the road, cycle on the hard shoulder whenever it is wide enough and possible; otherwise, use only the essential space on the road. On long descents with bends and under safe conditions, you may leave the hard shoulder and cycle on the right-hand side of the road.

Cyclist, wherever you go, make yourself visible and predictable. If there is a cycle lane, use it, and always respect right of way!
