Section Tourdera Fogars de la Selva – Hostalric

Description of the section

The Fogars de la Selva–Hostalric section is an easy route approximately 4.5 kilometres long. Most of the completely flat itinerary runs alongside the Tordera. It begins at the church of Sant Cebrià de Fogars, where you will find an information panel and the first signpost pointing towards Hostalric, and finishes in the town of Hostalric. You can also extend the route slightly and finish at Streams Park and the Arbúcies stream, an area included in the PEIN network of protected natural spaces. From there, you can join the branch following the Arbúcies stream or continue along the main Tordera route. This increases the total distance to 7.2 kilometres.

Please remember that throughout the route, you should not leave the marked path and must always follow safety recommendations and respect nature.

This section of the Tourdera route is shared by walkers and cyclists throughout. It has a total ascent of only 32 metres and an overall easy difficulty level. If you decide to continue to the Arbúcies stream, simply follow the vertical signs. At the starting point, in front of the church of Sant Cebrià de Fogars, you will find a signpost indicating the route for cyclists and walkers, as well as a Tourdera information panel. Follow the paved road upstream along the River Tordera towards Hostalric. After approximately 700 metres, you will reach the first directional signpost.

Parking is available in front of the church. The first 600 metres follow a paved road with very little traffic, leading to the Fogars de la Selva sports area, close to the Town Hall. The vertical signposts make the route easy to follow. If in doubt, follow the yellow trail markers. They use the standard code for painted routes: a stripe indicates the correct route, a cross marks the wrong direction and a 90-degree angle indicates a sudden change of direction or turn.

After passing the sports area, leave the paved road and follow a forest track through poplar plantations, which will take you back towards the Tordera. After the plantations, continue parallel to the river until the end of this section, with views of the riverbed and riverside vegetation. During the final part, the route runs between the river and the industrial estate until it reaches the BV-5122 road bridge.

After crossing the bridge, you will enter Hostalric and first pass the Local Police station. If travelling on foot, walk up Ravalet Street until you reach the Friars’ Tower, opposite the Town Hall. The end of the section is on the left, in front of the Tourist Office at Domus Sent Soví.

If travelling by bicycle, take Coronel Estrada Avenue, as cycling up Ravalet Street would mean travelling against the permitted direction. On reaching Bulls Square, you can continue to the Tourist Office at Domus Sent Soví, where this section ends.
