Section Tourdera Malgrat de Mar – Palafolls
Descripció del tram
The Tordera Route section between Malgrat de Mar and Palafolls is 7 kilometres long and allows you to connect these two municipalities on a pleasant walk through the riverbanks and the Tordera Delta. The route begins in front of Malgrat de Mar railway station, where you will find the route information panel. Following the directions on the first wayfinding sign, you should head towards the beaches and the mouth of the Tordera. The section ends in the town of Palafolls, although before reaching it you will have the opportunity to make a detour to the mouth of the Tordera and observe its coastal lagoon.
Throughout this section, much of the route follows paths separated from traffic, while the remainder takes place on tracks with very little traffic or through urban areas. However, in the market garden area of Malgrat, after leaving the beaches behind, the route follows the Camins del Pla and de Mas Bages, on a paved road shared with vehicles. Please remember that throughout the route you should not leave the marked path, always following the route signage, and that you should respect all safety recommendations as well as the natural environment at all times.
More information about this section…
To complete the Tourdera section between Malgrat de Mar and Palafolls, which follows the same route for both hikers and cyclists, you will cover a total distance of 7 kilometres, with an ascent of only 10 metres, making the overall difficulty of the route very low. At the start of the route, in front of Malgrat de Mar railway station, you will find a route information panel, nearby parking facilities and, at the same time, you will be able to enjoy the services offered by a tourist destination such as Malgrat, including shops, bars, restaurants, etc.
You will begin the route by heading towards the beaches and the mouth of the Tordera, following the direction indicated by the wayfinding sign. After a short distance, you will pass through an underpass beneath the railway tracks and reach the seafront promenade of Malgrat. Following the route signage once again, you will pass several beaches and eventually reach the Passeig de la Pomareda, where the route is very easy to follow as it is separated from motor traffic by a fence. Along this section, you will walk just behind the dune vegetation, which is protected because of the characteristic plant species found in these environments.
When you reach the campsite area, you will leave the segregated route and continue along the Camí de Mas Bages and the Camí del Pla, a section that follows a shared roadway and therefore requires attention to traffic. Even so, this part of the route passes through the market garden area of Malgrat de Mar, in the heart of the Tordera Delta. Following the path, you will reach the Tordera River at the Pla ford area. At this point, the wayfinding signs will indicate whether you wish to continue towards the mouth of the Tordera (taking a detour of just over one kilometre) or continue towards Palafolls. From here, you will once again join a path completely separated from traffic, running along the top of the Tordera embankment.
The route towards Palafolls follows the Tordera closely, alternating between segregated paths and forest tracks. Before reaching the village, however, you will pass through the Tordera River Park, with its ponds and leisure and rest areas. Once you arrive in Palafolls, the route will lead you to the town centre, where you can see distinctive buildings such as the library and the Palauet. In Palafolls, you will also once again find services such as bars, restaurants and shops, where you can rest and purchase supplies.
