Last Sunday, July 21st, the active tourism agency Rutatur organized a new activity for the Tourdera. The activity, called “La Cabronada”, consisted of a mountain bike route from Santa Maria de Palautordera to the municipality of Montseny, with a delicious finish. Do you want to know more?
This is how Rutatur turned an ordinary Sunday into an epic story. The day promised to be the perfect combination of sport, nature, and a final delight: a tasting of artisanal cheeses at the Formatgeria del Montseny, located in Can Gorgs (Montseny). But these weren’t just any cheeses, no! They were the result of some alpine goats that surely have a master’s degree in dairy production.
The route involved following the Tourdera for 55 km round trip, from the Rutatur headquarters at the Montseny Via Natural space (the old Renfe station in Santa Maria de Palautordera), to the Formatgeria del Montseny. Most participants opted for electric bikes, but some heroes decided to do it the old-fashioned way with their traditional bicycles. Although the route is “simple and cycleable”, the 1300-meter elevation gain had to be taken into account, so Rutatur guided the participants and made the most suitable type of bike available to each one.
At 9 in the morning, the cyclists gathered at the center, picking up and distributing their bikes with smiles on their faces. Although the day started somewhat cloudy, it didn’t seem to foreshadow anything bad. The weather, however, had other plans for this group of intrepid adventurers. Just as they started to pick up the pace, the sky decided to turn into an aquatic festival with XXL-sized drops and, if that weren’t enough, some moments of hail provided the final touch to the experience.
The rain had no mercy and, as if it were part of the plan, it accompanied the participants to the Formatgeria del Montseny. In this way, the activity earned and honored its name: “La Cabronada” (a tricky situation), because, honestly, no one expected it! But none of this discouraged the participants, who continued with the motivation of knowing that the big prize, the fantastic cheese tasting, was waiting for them at the end.
Finally, after fighting and surviving the elements, the group arrived at the Formatgeria del Montseny. Here, the magic took place: the sky calmed down and the participants were able to enjoy a cheese tasting that more than made up for the adventure they had experienced. Between bites, the cyclists talked about the incidents of the route, laughing, enjoying the moment, drooling over each piece of cheese, and with views that made every drop of rain worth it.
Afterwards, and with renewed spirits, it was time to head home. And as if the sun had decided to reward them for their persistence, the clouds dissipated completely to give way to a clear sky that accompanied them all the way back, drying both the terrain and the cyclists. The only incident was a flat tire resolved quickly by the Rutatur team; otherwise, everything went “on wheels”.
So, despite the inclement weather, “La Cabronada” was a complete success and became one of those adventures that are not easily forgotten. A perfect combination of nature, sport, cheese, and a little meteorological madness left everyone with a smile and wanting to repeat. If it rains again next year, these great knights on wheels already know they are more than prepared to keep pedaling with the same good humor!
