Some tips for sustainable tourism in Montseny

As you know, one of the great attractions of the Tourdera is the Montseny Biosphere Reserve, the massif where the Tordera river and the Arbúcies stream are born, which give our route its name. This space, of great relevance and importance for the biodiversity it hosts (check here the post we prepared for you), must be preserved and we must make its enjoyment compatible with its conservation. Therefore, following the recommendations of the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism in Montseny, we provide you with some tips to enjoy it in a sustainable way.

1. Access the park by public transport.
On weekends and holidays you will be able to use the park bus, through a ticket integrated with RENFE. Currently you will find 5 lines that will allow you to enter the heart of Montseny:
• 573 Sant Celoni-Santa Fe
• 576 Santa Maria de Palautordera – Montseny
• 436 Vic -Viladrau
• 484 Vic-Sant Miquel de Balenyà -Collformic
• Line 572 Sant Celoni – Fontmartina. Transport on demand (TAD)

You will find more information on the Diputació de Barcelona park bus website.

2. Discover the natural environment on foot or by bicycle.
Montseny has a wide range of signposted trails, among which is the “Ruta de la Tordera i riera d’Arbúcies”. Always remember to follow the enabled trails and keep your dog on a leash so as not to disturb Montseny’s livestock activity or alter natural habitats. Don’t forget to take away the waste you generate. You can follow more recommendations on civility in the blog post we prepared for you a few weeks ago.

You will find more information on signposted park itineraries and tips for staying in the Park.

3. Stay in establishments that work with quality and sustainability criteria
Wake up in the heart of nature, in accommodations that care about quality and sustainability, and that will make you feel at home: hostels, holiday camps, hotels, rural accommodation…, recommendations will be made from the Park itself and, if not, when you choose your accommodation, take into account how they treat sustainability in their day-to-day life.

Here you will find some sustainable tourism accommodations in the Park, or you can consult the accommodations in the directory on our website where you can filter them by municipality, type of activity, etc.

4. Book guided activities in the Park
As we already informed you a few months ago on the blog, in Montseny there are several local guide companies that offer visits to beautiful corners of the park. Their experience and professionalism will allow you to know first-hand the history and origins of the space, as well as discover its biodiversity, always guaranteeing responsible and non-invasive visits.

The Natural Park offers guided visits every weekend of the year and the Association of Montseny Tourism Entrepreneurs also organizes very interesting “Tastets de cultura i natura”.

5. Always plan your visit and get information at the official points
If you are organizing a stay in the Park, we recommend that you consult the websites of the territory itself, where you will find a wide range of tourist proposals. Once in the area, visit the tourist offices or information centre, which will be able to give you additional information in real time.

You may find the following links interesting: Associació d’Empresaris Turístics del Montseny, Xarxa de Parcs Naturals de Catalunya, Montseny Natural Park information centres and points, or the tourism websites of the regions of la Selva, Osona or el Vallès.

6. Taste and buy local product
Let yourself be seduced by the local gastronomy. Savour its reference products: chestnut-based products, craft beer, cheeses and sausages, honey… You can enjoy them in restaurants or through artisan companies that offer tastings and/or guided visits to their facilities. You will also be able to find them in local shops.

We leave you here some examples of companies that carry out agri-food visits.

7. Participate in local festivals.
During the month of August, several municipalities celebrate or have celebrated their local festival. Participate in their events and enjoy their people: concerts, family activities, walks… a lot of activities for all tastes!

You can consult here the agendas of different entities with all the information: Montseny Natural Park, Associació d’Empresaris Turístics del Montseny, or the agendas of the tourism websites of the regions of la Selva, Osona or el Vallès.
