Do you know Mas Can Figueres in Gualba? It is surely the most iconic farmhouse in Gualba, located very close to the town center and under municipal ownership since the beginning of the 2000s. It currently functions as an Information Point and Center for Interpretation and Exhibition, so we recommend all Tourdera users to visit it; it’s worth it!
Mas Can Figueres in Gualba is a farmhouse whose origin dates back to the 13th century (it has been documented since 1260), although the current set of buildings is the result of reforms carried out in the 16th century. The oldest building is the “big house” (casa gran), with a wide façade centered by the semicircular voussoired portal, while next to it is the “small house” (casa petita), currently converted into a space where local minerals are exhibited.
The municipality of Gualba is well known for the fair it organizes, MineralGualba, a mineral exchange and sales fair organized by the City Council with the collaboration of the Catalan Mineralogical Group and the Mineralogical Fund of Catalonia, with the aim of promoting Catalan mineralogy, encouraging collecting, and making the mining heritage and the Gualba Mineral Museum known. In Can Figueres, you will find a mineral exhibition that will delight mineral lovers, with very diverse specimens such as fluorites, aragonites, galena, pyrite, etc.
In the main building of Can Figueres, you will also find a small interpretation space, an audiovisual, a room for presentations, etc., where you can better get to know the farmhouse, its corners, the town of Gualba, etc., or find some itinerant exhibition. Specifically, from Tourdera, we were able to use the room for presentations, where we were able to explain the project to all attendees last October.
