As many of you know, we have come a long way to get to where we are with the “Tordera and Arbúcies stream Route”. From the moment the idea was born to create a tourism product for hiking and cycle tourism tracing these two river courses to the current state of the project, many actions have already been executed and we are over 50% through the project.
Tourdera is a project made possible thanks to the involvement of no less than 18 town councils, which aim to make a route tracing the Tordera and the Arbúcies stream a reality, through cycling and hiking. Whether walking or by bicycle, the route allows the population to discover the territory, promoting knowledge of the nature and heritage associated with the river, and fosters local development in the municipalities with the arrival of new visitors. These 18 municipalities meet at least twice a year to coordinate all actions and make decisions.

From the very first moment, the criteria the route had to follow were very clear: be as close as possible to the river course, take advantage of existing itineraries with low or no traffic, recover disused sections, signpost the route, and incorporate criteria of maximum environmental respect and landscape integration.

The resulting route proposal was over 200 kilometers, adding the main itinerary, that of the Arbúcies stream, and small links between population centers or train stations to the main section of the route, as is the case of Massanes, Riells i Viabrea, Breda, Gualba, or Vallgorguina.

Currently, 11 municipalities already have active sections of the route, which you can consult in the itinerary section of the website, where you will be able to access the individualized sheets for each one, their technical information, access to tracks, etc. These municipalities are Montseny, Fogars de Montclús, Sant Esteve de Palautordera, Santa Maria de Palautordera, Sant Celoni, Vallgorguina, Gualba, Fogars de la Selva, Tordera, Palafolls, and Malgrat de Mar. In all these municipalities, you will find route signage, which you can also consult in the signage section of the website, and in specific areas, you will see that works have been carried out on the surface to improve accessibility. All actions have been financed by the Barcelona Provincial Council (Tourism Department) and executed by the different town councils.

Regarding the remaining 7 municipalities, we already have the executive projects for each of them and, in a short period of time, the bidding procedure for the actions is expected to begin, which are expected to begin this year, 2018, and be finished in 2019. In this case, the municipalities are: Hostalric, Riells i Viabrea, Breda, Blanes, Arbúcies, Sant Feliu de Buixalleu, and Massanes.
We encourage you to follow Tourdera’s news to learn about novelties and the activation of future sections through the website or social media profiles. Meanwhile, you can go and sample the 11 municipalities with an active route (with 114 active kilometers), always following the safety and nature respect recommendations.
