Tram Castell de Montsoriu - Arbúcies

La Tourdera, one of the routes to discover medieval Catalonia

As you know, one of the jewels of the Tordera route is the Montsoriu Castle, the largest Gothic castle in Catalonia. And taking advantage of the fact that the newspaper Público prepared an article on routes to discover medieval Catalonia, the section of the Tourdera that passes through this famous castle could not be missing!

In the heart of the Montseny Natural Park, Montsoriu Castle stands at an altitude of 630 m and overlooks a large area of land around it. It is considered one of the great fortresses of the Mediterranean and was the palace residence of the Viscounts of Cabrera. If you are interested in the whole history of this lineage, don’t miss the Viscounty of Cabrera project!

To discover this and other jewels of our heritage, the newspaper Público has compiled a set of routes this January that will allow you to get to know, first-hand, different elements of the Catalan medieval heritage, among which the section of the Tourdera between Arbúcies and Montsoriu Castle stands out.

This section of the route, which is somewhat demanding, covers 8 km if you do it via the variants exclusive to hikers, or 13 km if you do it via paths suitable for bicycles. To this distance, we must add the fact that the accumulated positive elevation gains are more than 500 m. However, a very good reward awaits you at the end of the section: the Castle. Also, keep in mind that you will have to return afterwards, unless you have planned a pickup at the end point.

You will find all the information for this section of the route on the website, whether you do it on foot or by bicycle! Are you up for it?
