As you know, Storm Gloria caused a lot of trouble and damage to the Tourdera, but it has also brought, in the long run, some benefits, such as the greater status of preservation of the Tordera mouth, or the reconstruction of the Tordera bridge between Malgrat de Mar and Blanes, much larger and with a segregated bike lane. This month, new signage has been installed at this point, improving connectivity between these two towns.
In 2020, you will all remember how Storm Gloria washed away part of the Tordera Bridge between Blanes and Malgrat de Mar, which meant that for a very long period of time, the connection between the two municipalities at this point remained cut, both by road and by train.
The reconstruction of these two bridges, given the complexity, dragged on for months, as you can see in this old article we prepared for you. The reconstruction was a major benefit, as the new bridge was properly sized, with two wide traffic lanes and, in addition, a bike lane completely segregated from traffic was added, which is very popular nowadays.
This month of June, we have taken the opportunity to install new signage to link Blanes with Malgrat de Mar, from the Tourdera, at this specific point. Initially, the route crossed the Tordera via the bridge located upstream, on the road between Palafolls and Blanes, where a segregated bike lane was enabled during the route construction works. Thus, currently, the Tourdera allows crossing the Tordera river via two points and we wanted to take advantage of this fact. Specifically, a new banner support has been installed at the entrance to the bike lane, and a new tracking banner has also been installed on the support that is on the route just before passing under the bridge.
