One of the main uses of the Tordera and Arbúcies stream route (Tourdera) is hiking. The goal of the Tourdera is for users to be able to discover the territory that these two rivers drain, through active tourism practices such as cycling or walking. In this article, we want to give you some tips to be able to enjoy hiking safely.
Equipment
First of all, we recommend that you go well prepared in terms of equipment, and in this section, we will start with good footwear. You have to think that to reduce the possibility of falls or sprains, the use of trekking boots, well secured to the ankle, with a rigid sole and with a well-marked pattern, will ensure you don’t slip easily and will guarantee good support. Also remember never to use new footwear for long and demanding walks, since a process of adapting the foot to the shoe is necessary so that annoying blisters do not appear.
Secondly, regarding equipment, you have to think about the clothing you use. The fact of exercising will mean you need clothing that breathes. But, in addition, you should always think about bringing some piece that can warm you up in case the weather changes quickly.
And, thirdly, think about accessories. A good, ergonomic backpack will make walks more pleasant by carrying everything you need with you. You can also think about bringing poles, especially in more abrupt territories and sections with more slope, which will help you maintain a more correct posture and have more support points. Good sunglasses will also help you protect yourself from the sun, especially in the summer months.

Water and food
You must always carry reserves of water with you and drink often to avoid dehydration. Think that water is extremely important for our organism and its lack can be fatal for us. Even if the level of demand is high, you can bring isotonic drinks, rich in mineral salts, which are very important when physical effort makes us sweat a lot.
It is also very important that you carry reserve food and that you eat often and in small quantities. There are foods especially indicated for demanding walks, such as energy bars, nuts, etc.

Recommendations
Above all, you must plan the route you want to do in advance and, especially, adapt it to your physical capacity. You cannot do long hikes without being used to doing so, so we recommend that you do sections or walks gradually, each time longer and more complex, in order to get your body used to the physical activity of walking.
Think that it is very important to protect yourself from the sun, not only with sunglasses, but also with sunscreen, since burns are very dangerous for health and very annoying.
We also recommend that in your backpack, especially on long walks, you carry a small emergency kit with some disinfectant in case you get a wound, sterile gauze, band-aids or cold gel, so you will know how to act in case of small accidents.
Finally, although we will leave it for a future article where we will develop it more, although more than a recommendation it is an obligation, whenever we go to the natural environment we must respect it in all aspects (respect silence, do not litter, etc.).

We hope that all these recommendations will help you make your walks or hikes more pleasant and that you visit us in some of the sections of the Tordera route. Surely you will find very simple sections, in which the tips in this article are less necessary, but in those longer sections, we ask you to take them into account to make your hike a safe and more pleasant experience.
