Section Tourdera Fogars de la Selva – Massanes

The section between Fogars de la Selva and Massanes is a route shared by cyclists and pedestrians, measuring just under 7.5 kilometres and generally considered easy, despite a cumulative ascent of 126 metres. It is essentially a walk from the Church of Sant Cebrià de Fogars de la Selva, passing through Hostalric (without actually entering the town), to the village of Massanes. If you arrive by car, you will find parking easily around the church. To start the route, simply follow the directions on the wayfinding sign located next to the route information panel, which indicates Hostalric and Massanes. You should head upstream along the Tordera River, following the paved road and the yellow trail markers, and after about 700 metres you will reach the first wayfinding sign.

The route, which takes place largely on paved roads, is signposted throughout with route markers. It also includes significant infrastructure measures such as road markings to warn drivers that the road is shared in certain sections, safe pedestrian crossings, segregated cycle lanes, and more. Please remember that throughout the route, you should not leave the marked path and must always follow safety recommendations and respect nature.

This section of the Tourdera Route, between Fogars de la Selva and the town of Hostalric, is shared throughout its entire length by hikers and cyclists. In total, it covers just over 7 kilometres, with a cumulative ascent of 126 metres, making the overall difficulty of the route low. At the start of the route, at the Church of Sant Cebrià de Fogars, you will find a wayfinding sign indicating the route to follow from this point, whether you are travelling by bicycle or on foot, as well as an information panel about the Tourdera. You should head upstream along the Tordera River, following the paved road and the yellow trail markers, and after about 700 metres you will find the first wayfinding sign.

At the beginning of the section, opposite the church, you will also find a parking area where you can leave your vehicle if you arrive by car. Once you start following the direction towards Hostalric, you will see that the first 600 metres of the route follow a paved road with very little traffic, which leads to the sports area of Fogars de la Selva and very close to the town hall. The wayfinding signs make the route very easy to follow, although if you are ever in doubt, you only need to follow the yellow trail markings that indicate you are on the correct path. The meaning of these markings follows the standard system used on painted hiking routes: a single line indicates that you are on the correct path, a cross indicates that you are on the wrong path, and a 90° angle marker indicates a sharp change of direction or a turn.

Continuing along the route, once you have passed the sports area, you will leave the paved road and enter an area of poplar plantations along a forest track that brings you back towards the Tordera River. After passing through all the poplar groves, you should continue alongside the river until the end of the section, with constant views of the riverbed and its riverside vegetation. Further on, you will travel between the river and the industrial estate until reaching the bridge of the BV-5122 road. Once you cross the bridge, you will arrive at the entrance to Hostalric, where you will first come across the local police headquarters. At this point, following the signs to Massanes, you must cross the red pedestrian crossing and pass beneath the Hostalric bypass until you reach Joaquim Ruyra Street, along a shared section of the route where you should pay attention to traffic. This street will take you to the Can Tià Camps residential area and then through the Massanes industrial estate, where you will travel along a cycle lane separated from traffic. Following the signs, you will reach the Massanes road (GI-5121), which you must follow for 850 metres to the village of Massanes, taking great care with traffic, where this section ends.
