Section Tourdera Hostalric – La Batllòria
Descripció del tram
The Hostalric – La Batllòria section, shared throughout its entire route by hikers and cyclists, allows you to discover the middle course of the Tordera River. It is a low-difficulty section, approximately 12 km long and almost completely flat (with a cumulative ascent of 39 m and a cumulative descent of 24 m). The section begins in Hostalric, and you can start it from two different points in the town. The first starting point is in front of the Tourist Office, located in what is considered the old town centre (you will find a large public car park directly behind the Tourist Office).
The section ends in the village of La Batllòria, which belongs to the municipality of Sant Celoni. In Hostalric, you will find a wide range of tourist services, including bars, restaurants, shops, municipal facilities, and more, while in La Batllòria the range of services is more limited, although still available. To begin the route, you should always head upstream along the Tordera River, following the route signs that already indicate the direction towards La Batllòria.
More information about this section…
The Tourdera section from Hostalric to La Batllòria is a very easy walk despite its 12 kilometres in length, as it is an almost completely flat route with very little elevation gain or loss. This section offers a highly enjoyable route through the natural heritage of the Tordera riverbanks, the final stretch of the Arbúcies stream (a PEIN and Natura 2000 Network protected area), and the Llobateres wetland. At the same time, this section allows you to discover the cultural heritage associated with the medieval town of Hostalric (the Fortress, the walled enclosure, the Torre dels Frares, etc.), and you may also take a detour to the Gorg d’en Perxistor (signposted from the route), a commemorative monument marking the site of a pool where, according to tradition, Ramon Berenguer II, known as Cap d’Estopes, was murdered by his brother Berenguer Ramon, known as the Fratricide. The final destination is La Batllòria, which belongs to the municipality of Sant Celoni.
To follow the route, you can begin either at the Hostalric Tourist Office or at the sports area. Both locations offer ample parking and both feature a route information panel. If you start at the Tourist Office, you should head towards carrer Raval and continue uphill to Plaça dels Bous, where you will find route signs directing you towards the market gardens of Hostalric. Always follow the wayfinding signs and the yellow painted trail markers. If, instead, you start from the sports area, from the information panel—which also serves as a bicycle service point—you should head towards the Arbúcies stream or Parc de les Rieres, that is, follow Via Romana street southwest until, after little more than 500 metres, you reach the route signs and yellow markers. Specifically, you will find the signpost marking the point where the main route and the Arbúcies stream route converge.
In either case, you should always follow the signs towards La Batllòria and the yellow waymarking markers, which will guide you along the Tordera River, through the Arbúcies stream area (Parc de les Rieres), past poplar groves and other natural features, almost always on forest tracks, until you reach the footbridge leading to La Batllòria. At this point, you must cross the footbridge over the Tordera River, and within a few metres you will arrive in La Batllòria, where you will find some bar and restaurant services.
Please note that Hostalric has a train station and that the Gualba train station, through which the route also passes, is located very close to La Batllòria (500 m). This can therefore be a convenient way to reach the route and to return home afterwards.
