Section Tourdera Sant Esteve de Palautordera – Mosqueroles
Descripció del tram
The Tourdera section between Sant Esteve de Palautordera and Mosqueroles is approximately 5 kilometres long and of moderate difficulty. It includes an exclusive variant for hikers as well as a separate variant for cyclists. The section begins in the town centre of Sant Esteve de Palautordera, where you will find parking facilities and a range of services, including the Tourist Information Point, shops, bars and restaurants. The route starts in front of the Tourist Information Point, where the route information panel is located. At this point, you must choose whether to follow the hiking variant, which passes through the town centre, or the cycling variant, which heads in the opposite direction.
By following the route markers and wayfinding signs found throughout the itinerary, you can enjoy a pleasant walk through the protected natural environment of the Parc Natural del Montseny. Throughout the route, it is important not to leave the marked path and to respect the local flora and fauna at all times.
As mentioned, the route includes a section that is reserved exclusively for hikers between Sant Esteve de Palautordera and Santa Magdalena. For this reason, cyclists should pay close attention to the signage and always follow the variants specifically designated for bicycles.
Cycling variant
The cycling section, 5.1 km in length, begins in the opposite direction to the hiking variant. In other words, it does not start by heading into the town centre; instead, from the Tourist Information Point, it goes back approximately 100 metres before taking the first street on the left. Simply follow the signs along the route, which will lead you to cross the Tordera after around 400 metres.
Continuing along a forest track, you will soon reach the well-known CRIC circus. The route then follows a steady climb up to Santa Magdalena, a Romanesque building included in the Architectural Heritage Inventory of Catalonia. The interior is not open to visitors. Here, the hiking variant rejoins the cycling route for the final section, a little over one kilometre in length.
Please note that the last 500 metres of the route follow the BV-5119 road. Although traffic is generally light, caution is advised.
Before reaching Mosqueroles, you will find signs indicating a possible detour to Masia Mariona, the headquarters of the Parc Natural del Montseny, which serves as a Tourist Information Point and includes an exhibition area.
In Mosqueroles, you can also visit the Church of Sant Martí de Mosqueroles and take the opportunity to enjoy a meal at the village restaurant.
Hiking variant
The hiking variant of this section is 5 km long and begins in front of the Tourist Information Point in Sant Esteve de Palautordera, where you will find one of the route information panels. To follow this section on foot, head towards the town centre, passing in front of the Town Hall. At Plaça Major, turn right to cross the Vallmanya stream and continue towards Montclús Castle. Throughout this initial section, the Tourdera shares its route with the local trail SL-C 83.
After walking approximately 1,700 metres and passing very close to the Font de Sant Antoni (which can be reached via a short detour), you will arrive at the Tordera River, which you will cross at a ford. You will then continue along a footpath beside the river until reaching a forest track.
At this point, you may leave the route for about 600 metres to visit Montclús Castle, an 11th-century fortress declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest and once owned by the Viscounts of Cabrera. After enjoying the castle and the views from the site, you will need to retrace your steps to the forest track and take a steep uphill path leading to Santa Magdalena, a Romanesque building included in the Architectural Heritage Inventory of Catalonia. The building is not open to visitors.
From here, you will begin the final kilometre of the route. The last 500 metres follow the BV-5119 road, which carries little traffic.
