From La Tourdera we wish you a happy new year!

We have just started a new year, and the 18 municipalities participating in the Tourdera project wish you a great start to 2026, full of good intentions, hopes and new challenges. One of the most common New Year’s resolutions is precisely to exercise more and take better care of ourselves, especially after all those Christmas meals! So we couldn’t miss the opportunity to talk about this resolution and encourage you to visit the Tourdera while exercising and enjoying the surroundings and nature.

Physical exercise, one of the most popular New Year’s resolutions, is an investment that benefits our health on many different levels. However, breaking out of our routine and changing our habits is not always easy. Today, we live in a society that increasingly leads us towards a sedentary lifestyle, even though our bodies are designed to be active and keep moving. We therefore need to break this pattern and understand physical exercise as something our bodies and our health need and that should be part of our everyday lives.

And this is where things start to get complicated… We have work, family responsibilities and other commitments that leave us little time to exercise. To break these habits, the most important thing is to determine what kind of physical activity we enjoy and how much time we can realistically devote to it.

Although ideally we should combine cardiovascular activities with strength training, the most important thing is simply to get started and gradually increase the effort and time we devote to exercise. In fact, the feeling of well-being after exercising often becomes the motivation for the next session. At Tourdera, we recommend hiking and cycling along the different sections of the route, which, as you know, offer varying levels of difficulty. You can also run them if your fitness level allows it. For the more adventurous, we offer different options for completing the entire route, always taking your fitness level into account and preparing your itinerary in advance.

In any case, whether you are walking, cycling or running, it is very important to keep the following factors in mind:

  • The section of the route should motivate you! Choose the sections that most appeal to you according to your preferences: do you prefer a forest section? Would you rather choose a busier or more secluded route? Do you prefer open spaces?
  • Choose sections that are suitable for you and progress gradually. A section in the heart of the Montseny massif is very different from one near the mouth of the Tordera, as gradients and distances can vary considerably. On the route sections page, you can choose sections according to their level of difficulty. Start with the easiest ones and gradually move on to more challenging sections.
  • Start with the activity you are most comfortable with. To begin with, discover the Tourdera using the activity you feel most comfortable and confident doing. If, for example, you are not used to cycling, start exercising by hiking, try running and later begin experimenting with cycling.
  • Try to be consistent. Once you have made the decision to exercise, try to be as consistent as possible. Remember that our bodies adapt to different situations: if we exercise regularly, our fitness will improve day by day, but if we stop, we lose that progress and have to start again. That is why it is important not to give up and to keep going. The Tourdera offers many different sections that you can complete one by one, and the goal of eventually completing them all can provide additional motivation.

We hope this article will help you get started with your resolution to exercise more this new year and, if you have not yet discovered it, encourage you to explore the Tordera and Arbúcies Stream Route.

We wish you a Happy New Year and good health! And to inspire you, here are some photos of users enjoying different sections of the Tourdera!
